Benefits of working with an independent publisher

A common question is, “What is the difference between Savory Words Publishing and a traditional book publishing company?”Savory Words Publishing is an independent book publisher that helps Deaf authors publish books. As opposed to self-publishing — where you perform every step of the book publishing process on your own — Savory Words helps you from beginning to end, providing editing, book design and layout, and publishing. Savory Words ensures that your book fits industry trends, and that your book is available on amazon.com and other bookseller websites.  Where we differ from traditional publishers is how we approach marketing activities and royalty payments.Traditional publishing companies provide full-range marketing services, such as promoting your book at trade shows, expositions, and other avenues.

With Savory Words, you are responsible for marketing your book, including booths and exhibitions, although Savory Words provides you with marketing collateral and assists with social media promotions. This benefits you through a higher royalty amount than you would receive from a traditional publisher.Another difference is that with Savory Words, authors are required to pay upfront for services, while traditional publishers usually will give you an advance.

However, in the long run, both have pretty much the same results. If you receive an advance, you will not receive royalty payments until this advance has been paid off with book sales. With Savory Words, you begin getting royalty checks immediately.

Yet another benefit of working with Savory Words is the customized services we provide, from editing to book cover design to sales. With traditional publishers, you may find that they make decisions about many aspects of your book with very little input from you. But at Savory Words, we work with you every step of the way to ensure that your book is published. Best of all, we’re Deaf-owned, Deaf-operated, and Deaf-centric.
